The family of 20-year-old Assam student Himashree Boro has named five individuals in a police complaint over her death in Andhra Pradesh, suspecting their involvement in the incident.
The complaint was filed at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station, naming Govinda Reddy, Ajinur Hussain, Sumitra Deori, Jyoti Choudhury and Abinash. The family has also recorded its statement before police personnel who arrived from Andhra Pradesh.
Senior Andhra Pradesh police officials have taken charge of the investigation and assured the family that the probe would be expedited. However, the allegations against the five individuals have not yet been verified, and their alleged involvement remains under investigation.
Himashree had travelled to Visakhapatnam to participate in a cultural event. While returning to Assam, she boarded a train on October 6, a day before the rest of her troupe, as she had to appear for an examination.
During the journey, she reportedly contacted her family and expressed concern about her safety inside the train coach due to the presence of several allegedly intoxicated men. Her body was found near railway tracks between the Ponduru and Dusi sections in Andhra Pradesh the following day.
Her body was brought back to Assam on Saturday, and her last rites were performed.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the bereaved family on Monday and assured them that they would get justice.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding Himashree’s death and determine whether the individuals named in the complaint had any role in the incident.
