The Indianapolis Colts fired their general manager, Chris Ballard, on Monday, and look set for a lengthy rebuild. Running back Jonathan Taylor has been linked with a trade away from the team, as has defensive lineman DeForest Buckner.
Buckner was asked at a press conference how important winning is to him, and he had an emphatic answer.
“Obviously, all I care about is winning. My main thing is winning and being able to compete for another Super Bowl.”

In just his fourth season in the league back in 2019, Buckner was fortunate enough to play in the Super Bowl with his old team, the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-20 in that game.
Unfortunately for Buckner, he has not be anywhere close to reaching that level of competitiveness since being traded to the Colts the following season. After a playoff trip in his first season in 2020, Indy has been mired in mediocrity since.
The 32-year-old Buckner is on an expiring contract, so he is a prime candidate to get traded before the deadline. It remains to be seen whether he will get his wish to be on a team that can compete for a Super Bowl.
But while he has fallen off from his peak, when he was an All-Pro selection, Buckner has shown he can still contribute to any team that acquires his services. He already has 4.0 sacks and eight quarterback hits in six games this season after getting 4.0 sacks and 13 QB hits in 10 games last year.
