Vasco fought a fierce battle with the consortium formed by Flamengo and Fluminense to face Boca Juniors at the Maracanã.
A draw would have been enough, but they ended up knocked out of the Copa Sudamericana by Boca Juniors in the cruelest fashion.
And, of course, their rivals had a field day.
Check out some of the many reactions after Vasco disappointed the 66,026 fans in attendance.
BANTER ALERT
It went viral!
Their rivals loved it!
Should they have just let them use the Maracanã straight away?
Congratulations?
Not quite...
And how about this post from Flu, who won the Libertadores by beating Boca at the Maracanã?
Tough one...
Does he have that magic touch?
Who learned their lesson?
Is that true?
And the Vasco who coaches Boca went through!*
*He's nicknamed "El Vasco" because of his Basque surname.
A reverse jinx?
Who remembers?
Is that true?
Looks like it didn't happen...
