Kaputa District Health Director Jonathan Bwalya has urged members of the public to remain vigilant against cholera and take extra precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
Dr Bwalya told the media in an interview that it is important for residents to observe preventive measures and remain alert to the risks posed by cholera, a waterborne disease that can spread through contaminated water and food.
He said his medical team is on the ground and working to ensure that cholera does not spread to Kaputa District.
Dr Bwalya emphasised the importance of public cooperation in preventing the disease, urging residents to take personal hygiene and sanitation seriously.
He further encouraged the public to practice proper hand washing, drink safe water, eat properly handled food and maintain clean surroundings as part of efforts to protect communities from cholera.
Residents were also urged to seek immediate medical attention if they developed symptoms such as acute watery diarrhea and vomiting, which may indicate cholera.
Dr Bwalya’s call comes as health authorities continue to emphasise the importance of vigilance and preventive measures in protecting communities from cholera outbreaks in the wake of reports of a cholera outbreak.
