Some of WA’s most recognisable landmarks will shine red on Friday, October 23, in a show of support for children living with disability, chronic illness and disadvantage.
Landmarks across Perth and regional WA will light up red for the first Light Up WA campaign by Variety WA.
They will include the Bell Tower, Elizabeth Quay, Fremantle Prison, Kings Park, Matagarup Bridge, and Optus Stadium.
Local landmarks taking part include the Pinjarra town square and Pinjarra suspension bridge.
Variety WA CEO Chris Chatterton said Light Up WA was designed to be both highly visible and deeply meaningful.
“When landmarks across WA light up red, it sends a powerful message to children and families doing it tough: you are seen, you are supported and you are not alone,” he said.
“Every person who attends, donates or follows the lights is helping Variety WA deliver life-changing support to children living with disability, illness and disadvantage across our state.”
Variety WA is encouraging people to take part in the Light Up WA challenge by visiting as many participating landmarks as possible.
The challenge will be guided by the Light Up WA app, with QR codes at each stop unlocking interactive displays, stories from WA children and families, and information about Variety WA’s programs and impact.
Prizes will be available for challenge winners, with clues, checkpoints and instructions revealed through the app on the night.
Mr Chatterton said the event had been created to bring people together in a way that was accessible, visible and uniquely West Australian.
“This is a campaign the whole State can see and be part of,” he said.
“Whether you are attending the sundowner, visiting a landmark, taking part in the challenge or making a donation, you are helping shine a light on the needs of WA children and the support that can change their lives.”
