By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police in Trinidad and Tobago have searched the residence of Acting Chief Magistrate Brian Dabideen and seized electronic devices as part of a wider investigation involving local and international law enforcement agencies.
The search was conducted on Monday, October 19, at Dabideen’s residence in Gulf View, San Fernando, prompting widespread attention because of his senior position within the country’s judicial system.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro confirmed that the operation formed part of a broader investigation involving international partners.
Guevarro declined to disclose specific details, explaining that the investigation was at a sensitive stage and that releasing additional information could compromise future investigative or judicial proceedings.
Investigators reportedly seized electronic devices considered relevant to the inquiry.
However, Dabideen has categorically denied wrongdoing.
Through his attorneys, Prakash Ramadhar, Michael Rooplal and Vishan Girwar, the acting chief magistrate confirmed that he cooperated with police and voluntarily handed over the devices identified in the search warrant.
His legal team emphasized that the execution of a search warrant does not establish that a criminal offence has been committed.
The Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago has also issued a statement emphasizing the importance of due process, the presumption of innocence and equality before the law.
The Judiciary said it would refrain from further comment to protect the integrity of any ongoing investigation or legal proceedings.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Attorney General John Jeremie have declined to comment on the investigation, referring questions to the police.
The investigation has attracted considerable attention in Trinidad and Tobago, where Dabideen occupies one of the most senior positions in the magistracy.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific allegations being investigated, and no criminal charge against Dabideen has been confirmed.
