Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is set to miss the rest of the 2026 season after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs. The Eagles confirmed on Monday that Hurts has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, a serious condition that can be life-threatening. The team expects him to make a full recovery and doesn't anticipate any serious long-term effects, but his season is officially over, and his future in football is even more uncertain.
The situation has attracted widespread attention because Hurts was cleared to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5 after doctors initially discovered a superficial blood clot in his calf. He played that game on Oct. 11, and flew back to Philadelphia with the team before a follow-up revealed a more serious diagnosis. The NFL has defended the medical decisions, while the NFL Players Association has called for a deeper look into how the situation was handled.
Now, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III has offered his take. Walker has firsthand experience with blood clots, having suffered a pulmonary embolism that affected both his lungs in high school. When asked about Hurts' situation and the flight, Walker was stunned by the fact that the team flew him back to Philly after the game.
"He went on a flight, huh? And everything? Yeah, that's crazy," Walker said, while also offering a message of support, telling Hurts to "just stay positive."

Walker has been outstanding in his first season with the Chiefs. Through five games, he's rushed for a whopping 665 yards and six touchdowns on 106 carries, averaging an explosive 6.3 yards per attempt. He's topped 100 rushing yards in four of Kansas City's five games, and has gone for over 170 rushing yards twice. Walker is gearing up for a revenge game too, with the Chiefs traveling to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Sunday night.

But while Kansas City is undefeated at 5-0 heading into the weekend, Philadelphia is going in the opposite direction. The Eagles have fallen to 2-4 after losing four straight games, and now they just lost their franchise quarterback for at least the rest of this season. There have already been questions about whether the Eagles will start to blow up their roster with the NFL trade deadline approaching.
