Manchester United are reportedly preparing a January move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Diego Gomez as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the second half of the season.
According to Hooligan Soccer, the Red Devils have emerged as leading contenders to sign the Paraguayan international, though Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring him.
Diego Gomez could be an ideal midfield addition
The 23-year-old has made an encouraging impression at Brighton since arriving from Inter Miami, showcasing his energy, physical strength, and ability to contribute in attack.
Gomez has drawn attention with his Premier League performances, including a spectacular long-range goal against Crystal Palace that highlighted his technical quality and confidence in front of goal.
Manchester United could benefit from a versatile midfielder like him. His ability to play multiple roles, carry the ball forward, and contribute in attacking transitions would add balance to the squad.
The Old Trafford outfit have been assessing potential midfield reinforcements, and Gomez could prove a valuable addition as they look to improve their consistency throughout the campaign.
Arsenal are also interested in the Paraguayan, while Atletico Madrid admire his aggressive approach and tactical discipline. However, United are reportedly among the clubs most likely to make a formal approach when the January transfer window opens.
Brighton demand €60m for Gomez
Convincing Brighton to sanction his departure will not be straightforward. The Seagulls recently extended Gomez’s contract until June 2031, strengthening their negotiating position and demonstrating their confidence in his long-term future.
According to the report, Brighton could demand between €50 million and €60 million before considering a sale.
The south coast club have little incentive to lose an important player midway through the season, particularly given his potential to develop further.
Manchester United must therefore decide whether to meet Brighton’s financial demands or explore alternative targets. Gomez’s versatility and attacking qualities make him an appealing option, but negotiations could prove complicated.
With Arsenal and Atletico Madrid also monitoring developments, United may need to act decisively if they want to secure his signature in January.
