MALAYSIA Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain pleaded not guilty at the Sepang magistrates’ court today to assaulting two police officers last month.
Shuhaily, 54, entered the plea after the charges were read out to him before Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani.
"I plead not guilty and claim trial," he said.
He was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to Lance Corporals Mohammad Faiz Muhamad Saman, 40, and Muhammad Ekmal Sofwan Driman between 1:17 pm and 1:30 pm on September 28 at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.
The charges, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carry a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Shahrizat Ismail, Ahmad Sazali Omar, Nor Azizah Aling, and Nur Aqiilah Ahmad Rofaie.
Shuhaily was represented by Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad, Datuk Yaacob Md Sam, Datuk Dr Baljit Singh Sidhu, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, Md Yunos Shariff, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali, and Kitson Foong.
Earlier, Shuhaily, dressed in a suit, appeared in high spirits amid tight security at the court complex, with a heavy presence of police personnel and Rela members.
He walked into the canteen for breakfast, even inviting journalists and photographers to join him.
Also present in a show of solidarity was Port Klang MCBA commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal.
Shuhaily had earlier said that he is prepared to face the nation’s legal process and will accept whatever decision the court reaches regarding the case.
He said he left it to the government to decide on any potential action to be taken against him, following the viral video that showed him reprimanding two individuals at Terminal 1 of the KLIA. - October 21, 2026
