Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwayla has directed the expansion of integrated services within the central markets of cooperative societies across Kuwait, aiming to bring essential services under one roof and make daily shopping more convenient for consumers.
The directive followed a field visit to the new headquarters of the Rawda and Hawally Cooperative Society, where the minister reviewed operations and services provided to shareholders and residents. During the visit, she inaugurated the upgraded Al-Tanour bakery inside the central market and reviewed the provision of bakeries, an oven and a pharmacy within the facility.
Al-Huwailah praised the cooperative society’s experience in providing bread production facilities and ovens inside the central market, describing it as a pioneering initiative. She stressed the importance of developing central markets, improving service quality and modernising product display and preparation methods to strengthen consumer confidence in cooperative societies. She also visited the society’s pharmacy and commended its organisation and service standards.
Dr Sayed Issa, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs and Cooperative Affairs and Director of the Ministry’s General Department of Planning and Administrative Development, said the experience would be extended to the development of tandoor bakeries across cooperative societies. He added that the price of tandoor bread had been fixed at 20 fils per piece.
Separately, Al-Huwailah stressed the need to improve institutional performance within the ministry, accelerate the processing of files and implement Cabinet decisions and ministerial directives. She instructed officials to identify pending transactions and reports, establish clear completion schedules, assign responsibilities and submit committee findings and recommendations without delay.
The minister also called for faster reviews of laws and executive regulations, simplified procedures, accelerated digital transformation and more effective handling of complaints. She emphasised the importance of protecting public funds and beneficiaries’ rights, maintaining the confidentiality of official information and strengthening coordination among ministry sectors.
In a separate coordination meeting with departments responsible for the cooperative sector and Gulf University, Al-Huwailah reviewed progress on the electronic platform for cooperative work, being developed under Ministerial Resolution No. 196/2026. The meeting examined the platform’s provisions, operational mechanisms and outstanding technical and administrative requirements.
Al-Huwailah said a substantial part of the platform had been completed and that it had entered the final review stage, ahead of trial operation and its subsequent official announcement. She said digital transformation would help improve operational efficiency, strengthen transparency and oversight, and simplify procedures across the cooperative sector.
