IMPHAL, Oct 13: Like many other organisations, the Manipur Chanura Leishem Marup (Macha Leima) too has expressed strong objection to holding Manipur Sangai Festival 2026 in view of the prevailing widespread violence and unrest.
A press release issued by the Macha Leima pointed out that tens of thousands of people displaced by the prolonged violence are still taking refuge in relief camps, unable to go back to their homes.
It asked whether the ongoing violence between Kukis and Nagas, the inability of Meiteis to move freely on National Highways and the prevention of IDPs from resettling at their villages are indications of the return of peace.
The wish and priority of IDPs and the general public are bringing an end to the protracted violence, not festivals, Macha Leima added.
