Technology firm SPARC Systems has donated computers to schools and a police station in Karonga and repaired critical equipment at Kaporo Rural Hospital in a fresh push to support education, public service delivery and healthcare in the district.

During a visit to Kaporo and surrounding communities, the company donated seven desktop computer sets to Mwenitete Teachers Development Centre (TDC) and a computer to Kiwe Police Station, while also repairing the hospital’s blood bank cold room and air-conditioning systems.
The donation to Mwenitete TDC follows a request for computer equipment and is expected to boost digital learning and improve access to technology for both teachers and learners in northern Karonga.
At Kiwe Police Station, the new computer is expected to strengthen administrative and operational efficiency as officers carry out their daily duties.
SPARC Systems also responded to a challenge at Kaporo Rural Hospital, where key blood bank and cooling systems had broken down, affecting operations. The company carried out repairs to restore functionality and support service delivery.
The intervention carries personal significance for SPARC Systems Managing Director Dr Wisely Phiri, whose late mother, MJ, worked at the hospital as a midwife.
“Further work is planned this week to address challenges affecting the hospital’s water system and bathrooms, alongside other improvements,” said Phiri.
The team also toured Kiwe Primary School to assess the impact of classroom blocks and desks previously donated by the company.
The infrastructure has helped improve learning conditions, particularly for girls who previously learned under trees or sat on the floor due to a shortage of classroom space.
The activities form part of SPARC Systems’ broader corporate social responsibility programme, which focuses on using technology, skills and community investment to deliver lasting impact.
