Officials paid tributes to the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty as part of Police Commemoration Day in Sri Sathya Sai and Chittoor districts on Wednesday.
In Sri Sathya Sai district, the main function was held at the District Police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar. Additional District Judge Venkateswara Rao, District Collector A. Shyam Prasad, Joint Collector Mourya Bhardwaj and Puttaparthi Junior Civil Judge Mujeeb Paspal were also present.
The SP recalled that on October 21, 1959, 10 CRPF jawans were martyred in Ladakh during a clash with the Chinese troops, and since then the day has been observed as Police Commemoration Day every year. He said that the families of martyrs would never be abandoned and the department would extend all support through the police welfare fund.
Collector Shyam Prasad said that while soldiers guard the borders, police protect internal security and ensure peace in society. He noted that road accidents, drug cases and crimes against women have declined in the district this year compared to last year due to effective policing, and he lauded the police force for their efforts.
Meanwhile, in Chittoor, SP Tushar Dudi, paid tributes at the Armed Reserve parade grounds. He said police personnel work selflessly round-the-clock and their sacrifice ensures peace in society. He called upon every police personnel to draw inspiration from the courage and discipline displayed by the martyrs.
