TheNewsGuru reports that the actor’s family announced the sad news via Instagram on Friday morning, appreciating fans, friends, and well-wishers for their prayers, love, and support during this difficult period.
“We, the family of Francis Duru, regret to announce his passing following a brief illness,” the statement read.
“We appreciate your prayers, love, and understanding. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
The actor’s death comes months after he dismissed rumours that he was battling a life-threatening illness.
However, in June, fans and colleagues grew concerned after a video showing him looking frail circulated on social media.
Responding to the speculation, Duru shared a video on Instagram in which he described the footage as “fabricated and malicious”, pushing back against reports about his health.
He denied claims that he was seriously ill, describing the footage as false and malicious.
