Capstone School, Thilixu Village, Chümoukedima, held its first Autumn Fest on Friday, featuring musical and dance performances, a science exhibition, poetry recitation, a traditional war cry and a Taekwondo demonstration by students.
According to a press release, the festival was organised to promote creativity, cultural expression and holistic learning, while providing students an opportunity to showcase their talents beyond the classroom.
Capstone School administrator Mr. Hetoka Achumi said the initiative was aimed at celebrating nature’s beauty, encouraging creativity and bringing students, teachers and parents together as one community. He said the fest also provided children an opportunity to express themselves, build confidence and create lasting memories.
Individual singing and dance performances showcased students’ talents, while the science exhibition featured student projects that encouraged scientific curiosity and hands-on learning. Students of Grades 1 and 2 presented a traditional war cry, adding a cultural element to the event.
The formal session began with a welcome note by Vipelo Shohe and Alina Zhimo of Grade 2, followed by a prayer by Ms. Kivitoli B. Zhimo. Achumi delivered the welcome address, while Kilini Zhimomi of Grade 1 presented the scripture reading and Kivinu Chishi of Grade 2 recited an autumn poem. The session, hosted by Ms. Phijing Wangnao, concluded with a prayer song by Chonglung M. Aventh of UKG A.
Emphasising the importance of such initiatives, Achumi said education should extend beyond textbooks and examinations, adding that such activities helped develop confidence, teamwork, social skills and creativity.
He expressed hope that the fest would encourage students and parents to appreciate nature, express creativity and work together with confidence and discipline.
He also hoped the event would foster joy, gratitude and togetherness among students, parents, school staff and other attendees, while reinforcing the importance of learning through discovery, experience and personal growth.
The inaugural fest reflected the school’s commitment to bringing together academic curiosity, artistic expression and cultural activities as part of holistic education.
