KUANTAN: Police dismantled an online scam call centre syndicate following five raids across Kuantan and Genting Highlands, Bentong between Oct 6 and Oct 14.
Acting Pahang police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said 31 people, comprising four locals and 27 foreigners, were arrested for alleged involvement in the syndicate.
He said the arrested foreigners included 25 Chinese citizens, one Indian citizen, and one Myanmar citizen.
"During the operation, police seized various equipment, including computers, laptops, mobile phones, and cash amounting to RM4,850.
"The case is being investigated under Section 420 and Section 120B of the Penal Code, as well as relevant provisions under the Immigration Act," he said at a press conference at the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters here today.
Azry Akmar said initial investigations revealed the operations were conducted in an organised manner with specific task delegations.
He added that the syndicate utilised fake social media accounts, messaging applications, and internet networks to deceive victims and conceal their true identities.
"The syndicate's modus operandi included online investment scams, love scams, and part-time job offer scams targeting victims from China, Europe, and the United States," he said.
