Newcastle United successfully kept Lewis Hall through the summer transfer window before securing the England left-back to a new long-term contract, but Manchester United reportedly has no intention of abandoning its pursuit of the defender.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United is planning a defensive overhaul next summer and intends to revisit a move for the 22-year-old.
“Manchester United are plotting a major defensive overhaul next summer and will revisit a deal for Newcastle and England left-back Lewis Hall, 22, who is keen to move to Old Trafford,” the BBC reported.
The i Paper’s Pete Hall confirmed that Manchester United wanted the defender during the previous window, but Newcastle’s valuation and refusal to sell prevented a deal.
“Newcastle United’s price tag and reluctance to sell put paid to any pursuit, but it is understood Man U will revisit the deal next summer,” Hall wrote. “Sources have told The i Paper that Hall was interested in a move to Old Trafford a few months ago and has not changed that stance.”
That claim comes despite Hall recently committing his future to Newcastle with an improved contract through 2031. After signing, Hall described remaining on Tyneside as a “no-brainer” and said he could see himself staying “for a long time” provided Newcastle achieves its ambitions.
That now looks more like a personal move to fill his pockets as soon as possible, then move on to greener pastures, than a true feeling of loyalty toward the Magpies.
There is no indication Newcastle’s stance on selling Hall has changed, and chances are it has not, but given the mutual interest in joining forces between Man Utd and Hall, it sounds like a transfer will inevitably be completed at some point in the near future.
Should Newcastle refuse to entertain any offers for Hall next summer, regardless of the fee, or just sell him quickly to avoid another Bruno/Isak situation? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
