Johnson’s TikTok journey began at a difficult time in his life, with his daughter encouraging him to start making videos instead of just watching them.
His love for music kept him going as more people discovered and enjoyed his content.
In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Johnson opened up about how he started, the effort he puts into his lip-sync videos, and how he feels about hitting the one-million-follower mark.
How Khesir Johnson started creating TikTok videos
Johnson's interest in entertainment began during his childhood, when listening to the radio and reading novels were among his favourite pastimes.
His grandfather owned a radio, which helped nurture his love for music.
He explained that the stories his grandfather shared about people from other parts of the world also sparked his interest in films.
His journey into content creation, however, started unexpectedly.
Johnson discovered TikTok during a challenging period in his life when he was struggling with addiction and personal difficulties.
He would use his daughter's phone to watch creators making lip-sync videos, gradually developing an interest in the performances.
His daughter noticed how much time he spent on the platform and encouraged him to try creating his own videos. She went a step further and opened a TikTok account for him.
What began as a way to spend his time soon developed into an activity he genuinely enjoyed.
"Content creation gave me something positive to focus on and allowed me to express myself through music and performance. I eventually bought my own phone and dedicated more time to making videos. As my content attracted more engagement, I became increasingly motivated to keep creating," he told TUKO.co.ke
Beyond posting videos, Johnson now hosts TikTok LIVE sessions, where viewers send him gifts that provide an additional source of income.

How does Khesir come up with his videos?
Johnson revealed that he enjoys music across different genres, particularly rap and R&B.
He draws inspiration from trending songs and also takes requests from followers who want him to perform their favourite tracks.
While his videos may appear effortless, the creator explained that he spends considerable time studying songs and perfecting his performances.
He pays attention to a song's mood and emotions to ensure his facial expressions capture its character. Practice and consistency are also central to his approach.
Depending on the song, Johnson can spend days or even weeks rehearsing before recording a video.
One example was his performance of a song by Cardi B, which he said took approximately one month to practise.
For him, getting the details right is important because he wants his performances to feel natural and reflect the essence of the music.
His preparation has helped him develop a distinctive style that keeps his audience entertained while allowing him to express his personality through music.
