Accused double murderer Beau Lamarre-Condon used a friend's phone to tell a colleague not to believe news reports about his alleged crimes, a jury has heard.
Lamarre-Condon, 31, has pleaded not guilty to the February 2024 murders of his ex Jesse Baird, 26, and Luke Davies, 29, saying the two men died in separate violent struggles.
The former officer entered Mr Baird's house armed with his police pistol and disguised as a food delivery rider before the two men were fatally shot.
After multiple days spent disposing of the two bodies, Lamarre-Condon handed himself in to police four days after allegedly murdering the men.
A month later, one of the senior constable's friends and colleagues received a phone call from an unknown number, yet a familiar voice.
"Dayna, it's Beau," Senior Constable Dayna Schagen recalled the accused saying when she answered after 9pm on a Monday night.
"What the f***, why are you calling me?" she asked Lamarre-Condon.
"I just wanted to tell you I love you," Lamarre-Condon said.
"Before you do anything ... not everything in the news is true, it will all come out in court."
Sen Const Schagen said she immediately cut off the conversation.
"You killed two people ... why do you think I would ever want to speak to you again?" she said before hanging up.
The officer, who testified about the conversation in Lamarre-Condon's NSW Supreme Court trial on Monday, said she had been close friends with the accused before his arrest.
After the March 28 call, she said she texted her superior officer an account of the conversation and gave a statement about its contents.
The phone Lamarre-Condon used to make the call belonged to his friend Jodie Parker, who lived in Queensland, the jury heard.
Along with the alleged murders of Mr Baird and Mr Davies on February 19, 2024, Lamarre-Condon is accused of breaking into his ex's home in August 2023 and stealing Mr Baird's phone and wallet.
Prosecutors allege Lamarre-Condon broke into the Paddington terrace using a key he did not have the right to own, either stolen or copied from a set belonging to Mr Baird.
Under cross-examination, defence barrister John Stratton SC suggested that Sen Const Schagen had talked through her efforts to retrieve property from an ex-partner with the accused before his alleged break-in.
"You told (Lamarre-Condon) you knew where your former partner kept the spare key," Mr Stratton asked.
"I don't recall," Sen Const Schagen said.
Sen Const Schagen denied she broke into her ex-partner's house without his permission, saying she believed he had knowledge of her presence.
A fear of being monitored permeated Lamarre-Condon's thoughts well before he allegedly murdered the two men, the jury heard.
Sen Const Schagen said the accused would regularly ask to move their conversations to encrypted app Signal when discussing police matters.
"Anything to do with work was not discussed over text ... he was very apprehensive about work and them hearing our conversations," she said.
The trial continues.
