LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to expedite the process for completing the Chief Minister’s E-Bike Scheme, following the closure of applications after more than 607,000 students submitted their final applications.
According to official figures, over 1.3 million students registered on the scheme’s online portal, while more than 607,000 completed the application process.
The Punjab government will bear the costs of interest and insurance under the scheme.
Officials said the verification and selection process is scheduled to be completed in October. Successful applicants will subsequently be selected through a transparent balloting process to receive electric bikes.
Under the scheme, 100,000 young people will be provided with e-bikes through a balloting process, with monthly instalments set at Rs3,000.
On the chief minister’s directives, successful female applicants will also receive free driving training.

“Every son and daughter of Punjab is very special to me,” the chief minister said.
