The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2026 NFL season with high expectations, but six games into the year, America's Team finds itself facing serious questions about its playoff hopes.
Despite a disappointing 2-4 record and consecutive losses, quarterback Dak Prescott believes Dallas still has enough time to turn things around. However, the veteran quarterback understands that the Cowboys cannot continue making excuses.
"We can only say we've got a lot of games in front of us for so long. Might be already past us, right? We've got to go win," Prescott said, according to ESPN.
Dallas suffered a frustrating 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers last Sunday, exposing offensive struggles that have become increasingly concerning.
The Cowboys have managed just 29 points over their last two games, while their defense ranks among the NFL's worst, allowing 26.5 points per contest.
However, Dallas remains in a favorable position because the NFC East has struggled collectively.
ESPN Analytics gives the Cowboys a 68% chance of winning the division despite their losing record.
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb believes the division remains wide open.
"Anybody can win this division, so why not us?" Lamb said.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer has also faced criticism over the team's offensive inconsistency. However, he remains confident in his coaching abilities and the talent on Dallas' roster.
"I think some of it is deserved. We've got to play better. I've got to coach better," Schottenheimer acknowledged.
The Cowboys now face a critical Monday Night Football matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, who also enter the contest with a 2-4 record.
For Dallas, the upcoming divisional showdown represents an opportunity to regain momentum and potentially change the direction of its season.
The Cowboys certainly have the talent to compete for a playoff spot, but talent alone will not solve their problems.
If Prescott and Dallas cannot capitalize on a struggling NFC East, another disappointing season could become unavoidable.
With 11 games remaining, the Cowboys' margin for error continues to shrink.
