More than 100 women gathered at The Hotel Windsor on 9 October for a High Tea supporting the Greek Community of Melbourne’s Archives Digitisation Project.

The event raised funds to digitise the first five of 30 hard-copy volumes held in the GCM archives, marking the start of a longer effort to make the records publicly accessible.

Organised by a volunteer committee including Paula Konidaris, Maria Pirpiris, Spiz Demetriou and Simela Stamatopoulos, the afternoon featured a raffle with prizes from sponsors such as the Hellenic Museum, Mary Di Carlo and local businesses.
Archivist Dr Juliana Charpantidou spoke about the fragility of key records, including the community’s first Minute Book from 1898 and early registers from Evangelismos church.
“We are preserving the handwriting, the names, the decisions and the family stories of those who came before us,” she said.

Consul General Dimitra Georgantzoglou and guest speaker Helen Mantzis also addressed the gathering. GCM Board Member Simela Stamatopoulos described the turnout as a strong start for the project.
