DODOMA: DISCIPLINE, courage and professionalism in carrying out international peacekeeping duties are among the qualities demonstrated by Tanzania Immigration Department officers who served in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Their participation contributed to international efforts to maintain peace and security while representing Tanzania with distinction on the international stage.
The commendation was made by the Commissioner General of Immigration (CGI), Dr Anna Makakala, during a meeting with the two officers at the Immigration Headquarters in Dodoma on October 19, 2026.
The officers are Immigration Sergeant Hatibu Omar Mohammed, from the Katavi Regional Immigration Office, and Immigration Constable Muhsini Mkamba Khamis, from the Uyui District Immigration Office in Tabora Region. They served in the 33/34 United Nations Peacekeeping Battalion in Lebanon during the 2025/2026 period under the auspices of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF).
During the meeting, Dr Makakala commended the officers for demonstrating discipline, obedience, courage and professionalism in the execution of their duties. She noted that their participation in the mission formed part of Tanzania’s contribution to international efforts aimed at maintaining peace and security.
Furthermore, the officers’ participation provided the Immigration Department with an opportunity to acquire valuable experience in carrying out international assignments. It also created opportunities for knowledge and experience sharing with other defence and security institutions, potentially strengthening the operational capacity of Immigration Department personnel.

Before joining the mission, the officers underwent specialised pre-deployment training in preparation for peacekeeping operations at the Tanzania Peacekeeping Training Centre (TPTC), located in Kunduchi, Dar es Salaam.
The training was officially opened on March 18, 2025, by the Centre’s Commandant, Brigadier General George Itang’are, and concluded on July 18, 2025. It was designed to prepare participants to manage the diverse operational environments, responsibilities and challenges associated with peacekeeping missions on the international stage.
The officers’ participation underscores the importance of specialised training, discipline and professionalism in international peacekeeping operations, as well as the contribution of Tanzania Immigration Department personnel to the country’s broader efforts to promote global peace and security.
