Lithuania ranks first in the European Union for the use of agentic artificial intelligence in organisations, according to a recent OpenAI study cited by the country’s Economy and Innovation Ministry.
"Lithuania's leadership in agentic artificial intelligence shows that our organisations can quickly adopt cutting-edge technologies and turn them into practical solutions. We must harness this potential to boost labour productivity, strengthen corporate competitiveness and create greater added value for the Lithuanian economy," Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Griksas said in a press release.
Ministry economist Titas Budreika said the study found that agentic AI accounted for 85 percent of all activity generated by OpenAI's enterprise AI tools among Lithuanian organisations using them.
"This shows that Lithuanian organisations are moving beyond testing technologies and increasingly integrating them into their everyday work processes," Budreika said.
The share of Lithuanian companies using AI tools has grown 2.5 times over the past year, the fastest increase among European Union member states, Budreika said.
Cyprus, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, the Netherlands, Croatia and Italy followed Lithuania in the OpenAI study.
The study examines how European companies are moving from standard AI use to advanced AI agents capable of not only generating information but also performing tasks, analysing data and assisting with decision-making.
A ministry analysis of AI's impact on the Lithuanian economy found that the country's gross domestic product could grow by as much as 17 percent over a decade if Lithuania approaches the level of leading Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries in developing innovative digital businesses.
