Former Dhaka University Sanskrit department professor Dulal Kanti Bhowmik, who went missing after leaving his home in Mohammadpur to buy medicine, has been found in Saidpur, although it remains unclear how he ended up there.
His family and police said he is now returning to Dhaka.
Dulal Kanti left his home in Chandrima Housing in Mohammadpur at around noon yesterday (15 October), saying he was going to buy medicine from a nearby pharmacy. When he did not return, family members searched for him in several places but could not contact him, as he had left his phone at home.
His wife, Kalpana Haldar, 68, filed a general diary (GD) at Mohammadpur Police Station under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) last night.
Police later traced him to Saidpur with the help of information technology.
Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Halim confirmed the development, saying, "Professor Dulal Kanti Bhowmik has been found in Saidpur. He went to Saidpur and is returning to Dhaka by bus on his own. We will know more about the incident when he returns to Dhaka."
Kalpana Haldar told TBS that her husband was returning to Dhaka on a Shanti Paribahan bus from Saidpur. He had contacted the family using a phone at the bus counter.
"He did not say how or why he went there. He said he would explain everything after returning home," she said.
