Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints in Paris.
Elliott was a full participant at practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He was also an estimated full practice participant on Friday. The Steelers cancelled Friday’s practice in Paris due to rain and wind in the forecast. It appears Elliott is set to make his return to the lineup in Week 7 against the Saints.
Elliott had his 21-day practice window opened and was a limited participant in practice on Thursday, Oct. 8. He was again a limited participant on Friday, Oct. 9, but was ruled out for a Week 5 return. Elliott was a limited participant in practice for the fifth straight session on Friday, Oct. 16 and was ruled out of a Week 6 return.
Elliott has been sidelined since last October with a significant hamstring/knee injury that required surgery. He began to get back to action this preseason and played in the team’s second preseason game, but suffered a setback and started the season on the injured reserve list, pushing Jenkins and then rookie Robert Spears-Jennings to be forced in alongside starting free safety Jaquan Brisker.
Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy said on Wednesday that is optimistic about Elliott being able to play this week.
“I hope so,” he said before practice at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. “We have a practice plan for him. He’s doing really well. He’s chomping at the bit, so we’ll see how it goes this week. … We’ll see how today goes.”
The Steelers released veteran backup Rayshawn Jenkins earlier in the week, signifying Elliott’s readiness to return.
