A royal wedding is on the cards! Princess Alexandra of Leiningen has announced that she is engaged
Instagram @alexa_leiningenCongratulations are in order for Princess Alexandra of Leiningen, the great-niece of King Simeon II of Bulgaria, who has announced her engagement this week. The 28-year-old royal, who lives with her family in Ontario, revealed that she will be tying the knot in a royal wedding with her long-term partner, Everett Kohl.
Princess Alexandra shared a series of photos from the storybook proposal, which took place by a lake in Whistler, in sight of the sun setting over the mountains. ‘Alexa’, as she is known, simply wrote ‘What a weekend!’ as a caption for the photos, confirming the news with a picture of her dazzling engagement ring.
It was down to her mother, Deborah Cully, to more formally announce the upcoming nuptials, writing on social media: ‘Thrilled to announce that our beautiful daughter Alexa is marrying the love of her life, Everett. Wishing this wonderful couple a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness. Let the celebrations begin!’
The big day may well see some of Europe’s lesser-known royals gather together in celebration of the happy couple. Princess Alexandra’s father, Prince Hermann of Leiningen, was born in Toronto; his mother, Princess Marie Louise of Bulgaria, was the older sister of Simeon II, linking the family to the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha-Koháry.
Since the abolition of the monarchy in 1946, the Bulgarian royal family has found itself spread across the globe. King Simeon’s son, Prince Kyril of Preslav, lives in London, while his daughter, the singer Princess Mafalda, is based in Spain – as is Simeon’s grandson, Prince Boris.
Like many of her royal counterparts, Alexa has forged a private career in finance. She graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in English Literature and Drama before reading for a master’s degree in digital marketing and getting a job in communications and public relations. After two years at a digital agency, she moved into finance, joining an investment firm as a marketing specialist before a promotion to manager this February.
Nor is this the only royal wedding on the cards for a young royal named Alexandra. This September, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, announced that she was engaged to Ben Sylvester-Strautmann, her boyfriend of ten years.

Princess Alexandra of Hanover also announced that she is engaged, revealing the news this September
Instagram @alex.hanoverPrincess Alexandra, whose father is Prince Ernst August of Hanover, shared a series of photographs, seemingly from her engagement and featuring her beloved dachshund, Eloise. Her nearest and dearest were quick to send their love, with Lady Kitty Spencer, Princess Olympia of Greece, and Beatrice Borromeo commenting their support – many of them, no doubt will be in attendance at the wedding.
A royal as glamorous as Princess Alexandra, 27, deserves an equally splendid ring – and the couple did not disappoint. Designed by Antinori di Sanpietro, the 18-carat yellow and white gold engagement ring boasts a 4.8-carat Fancy Yellow diamond, chosen by Strautmann himself, framed by two trillion-cut diamonds. The scion of a wealthy German family and former basketball player has had plenty of time to perfect his sense for royal aesthetics since he went public with his princess in 2017.
The ring bears a secret design beneath its setting, incorporating a motif inspired by the geometric patterns of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, as well as inscriptions reading ‘Antinori’ and ‘Made in Italy’ – references to the royal couple’s love of the city.
Two royal Alexandras and two royal weddings! Could Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway be making plans, too?
