If you, like me, need to get out the laptop and crack your knuckles before booking a trip, you understand the business of comparing hotel prices. Trivago is a reliable travel search engine that’s been occupying browser tabs since 2005; it’s hard to shake the company’s punchy “Hotel? Trivago” catchline, introduced to us by way of cheeky TV commercials. But how exactly does Trivago set itself apart from the pack? It’s a metasearch engine that compares accommodation prices across various booking sites—a springboard, if you will, for the actual reservation process. This is the website you come to to sift through the noise.
Founded in 2005 in Düsseldorf, Germany, by three college friends—Rolf Schrömgens, Peter Vinnemeier, and Malte Siewert—Trivago began as an effort to simplify the hotel search by highlighting price fragmentation all in one place—letting globetrotters see all the best deals from across the internet on one platform. If you’re a price-conscious traveler looking to incorporate Trivago into your planning process, these are the best ways to save on the site, with Trivago hotel deals, coupons, and promo codes.
