The NFL Players Association has chimed in on the story that the NFL and the Eagles would very much like to see go away.
The NFLPA issued a statement on Tuesday night calling for an investigation into the handling of the Jalen Hurts situation, which resulted in the player traveling to London with a blood clot in his leg, playing with a blood clot in his leg, and traveling back to Philadelphia with a blood clot in his leg.
“The NFLPA is not aware of any NFL investigation into the medical care provided to Jalen Hurts," the union said. "In fact, the league previously informed the union that it did not plan to review the care he received. Before conclusions are drawn about how this situation was handled, there must be a full investigation into what occurred. Determining the facts is essential to ensuring players receive the highest level of care and protection going forward.”
Given that NFL investigations regarding the proper application of the concussion protocol typically take a couple of weeks to resolve, it's odd (to say the least) that the NFL would so quickly conclude that the Hurts situation "was handled appropriately" by the team.
Everything about this situation smacks of a desire to close the book and move on, and to question or criticize anyone who would raise fair and proper questions.
Fortunately, the NFLPA is now among those asking the same questions.
