The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has defended President Bola Tinubu over the country’s persistent security challenges, arguing that the President has made significant efforts to address the situation.
Yari said Tinubu should not be blamed for failing to completely eliminate insecurity, noting that even former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired military general, could not fully resolve the problem during his tenure.
The former Zamfara State governor made the remarks on Monday during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met with Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other APC leaders in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Yari, the security challenges facing Nigeria should be considered in the context of the difficulties encountered by previous administrations.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said.
The APC campaign chief maintained that Tinubu was actively working to address insecurity and other national challenges rather than remaining inactive in the face of the situation.
He also appealed to Nigerians to support the administration, arguing that the economic hardship being experienced across the country was not unique to Nigeria.
Yari added that the government was working on measures to ease the burden on citizens and improve living conditions.
He further called on Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, stressing that tackling insecurity required collective responsibility alongside government action.
APC Begins Preparations For 2027 Elections
During the visit, Yari commended Governor Idris and other APC leaders in Kebbi State for their efforts to mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general election.
He expressed confidence that the party’s mobilisation efforts would translate into electoral success for Tinubu and other APC candidates.

“We are leading the campaign for the President’s re-election and other candidates of our party. We appreciate you for bringing the emirs together under one umbrella at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace,” Yari said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of state governors and party leaders towards the APC’s preparations for the next election.
Kebbi Governor Reaffirms Support For Tinubu
Responding, Governor Idris welcomed the APC Presidential Campaign Council delegation and expressed confidence in the party’s support base in Kebbi State.
The governor said the state would support Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 elections, citing the presence of prominent political figures in the state.
“We have no reason not to support the President. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Amb. Saidu Dakingari,” Idris said.
He added that the delegation had witnessed the level of support for the party in the state.
“You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC and we are for President Tinubu,” he said.
