On Tuesday afternoon, the Boston Celtics hit the floor for the first game of their season on the road vs the Detroit Pistons. This game marked the Celtics debut of Paul George, whom the team acquired for Jaylen Brown in this summer’s controversial trade with the Philadelphia 76ers.
To say George got off to a hot start to his Boston tenure would be an understatement, as the wing had amassed 31 points by the halfway point of the third quarter, already marking the highest-scoring debut in Celtics history.
He also moved up an impressive all-time list in the performance, moving into eighth place in three-pointers made in his career and passing legendary sharpshooter Kyle Korver, per ClutchPoints on X, formerly Twitter.

Many Celtics fans were quick to pan Brad Stevens’ trade for George this offseason, although some pointed out that, in theory, George might actually be a better fit for Boston than Brown, considering his ability to shoot the long ball, as well as his superior off-ball defensive instincts.
However, age and availability are two primary concerns for the former league MVP candidate, as he has missed quite a bit of time in recent years dating back to his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Still, he certainly looked up to the task in Tuesday afternoon’s game against one of the top defenses from last year in Detroit.
In any case, the Celtics will next hit the floor for their home opener on Friday against the reigning NBA champion New York Knicks. Tipoff for that game is set for 7:00 pm ET from Boston.
