During this post-monsoon seasonal transition, irregular rainfall, heavy thundershowers, and strong winds could continue through 19 October, according to meteorologist U Win Naing.
Following the lightning strikes and heavy downpours recorded in the early morning of 14 October across Yangon and Bago regions, temperatures temporarily dropped, though they are expected to rise again later.
“Early this morning, rainfall intensity reached up to 50 mm/hr at the Hlaingthaya and Kamayut stations, indicating extremely heavy rain. A potential low-pressure area to develop in the Bay of Bengal no longer appears likely to strengthen into a depression,” U Win Naing noted in his analysis.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) reported that rain clouds are forming over Yangon, Bago, Ayeyawady, and Tanintharyi Regions, as well as Kayah, Kayin, and Mon States. DMH warned for the areas along the path of these moving clouds of rain accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and hail.
Similarly, rainfall is expected to increase over the next two days in Tanintharyi, Kayin, and Mon. DMH has also issued a 100% forecast for isolated thundershowers in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Mandalay.
