Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to Sky Sport after the Giallorossi’s 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava.
“The team is doing well, they’re in good spirits. But they shouldn’t get too complacent; they need to keep doing the essentials and play consistently. On nights like this, they could even afford to be a little more precise.”
“These are extremely important answers, because this is the schedule and we need everyone, when called upon, to be up to Roma’s demands. These are crucial signals, because they allow us to move forward with confidence and expand the number of players who can be considered potential starters, practically to the entire squad.”
“The only thing that worries me a little is that every time we play these types of matches, we risk losing some players. We’ve got Cristante back, but we’re losing Pellegrini. In some areas, we’re really a bit limited. That’s the only danger, because otherwise, these are highly anticipated, extraordinary matches that represent an incredible test for us.”
“From these games, regardless of the result, you always gain some extra information and still have the opportunity to grow. The Champions League is extraordinary for precisely this reason, and we’ll approach both matches with this spirit. It was important for us to play a serious match right from the start, both because we need to get the three points and because there are no easy opponents in the Champions League. There aren’t any in the league, let alone in the Champions League.”
“We undoubtedly did well given the way we approached the match. I must say that we’re also rotating several players from one match to the next, and this allows us to keep most of the team fresh, or at least not have too many excuses related to fatigue. I think that by playing matches at this level, you can also find a better rhythm and condition, even if it’s perhaps a bit of an exaggeration to say so now. I have some players who are really good at the moment, and as long as they’re in this condition, it’s right to let them play.”
