The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Sallau Inuwa, popularly known as Liman Katagum, for allegedly stabbing his colleague, Ibrahim, to death following an argument over the price charged for washing vehicles.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the argument broke out between the suspect and the deceased over the price charged per vehicle washed.
Habib said the disagreement escalated, prompting the suspect to allegedly pick up a sharp knife and stab the victim several times.
He said, “In the heat of the moment, the suspect allegedly picked a sharp knife and stabbed the victim severally.”
The police spokesman added that Ibrahim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead despite efforts to save his life.
He stated that operatives attached to the ‘A’ Division swung into action after receiving the report of the incident.
According to him, credible information revealed that the suspect had fled to his paternal home in the Liman Katagum area, prompting the operatives to alert the Divisional Police Officer of Liman Katagum Division to arrest him.
“The swift synergy paid off, leading to his arrest at Mararraban Liman Katagum,” the statement added.
The command said the suspect was in custody, adding that he was undergoing discreet investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for diligent prosecution.
Habib noted that the incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday, October 22, 2026, at a car wash in Bauchi metropolis.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over the incident, noting that a minor misunderstanding over money had resulted in the loss of a human life.
The CP, while commiserating with the family of the deceased, urged members of the public to control their anger and resolve disputes through dialogue and other lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
He stressed that “no matter the level of provocation, taking a life can never be justified.”
In 2024, the Ogun State Police Command arrested a man identified simply as Dada Taiwo for stabbing his girlfriend’s brother, Damilola Momoh, in the Agbado area of the state.
The victim was stabbed in the neck with a bottle during an argument over a phone he borrowed.
