A 41-year-old mother received the shock of her life after discovering she was nine months pregnant only hours before giving birth to a healthy baby boy. Sammy Evans from the UK had initially visited healthcare providers regarding a strange hard lump near her ribs, believing it to be a minor gym-related injury. She was stunned when hospital staff confirmed she was already in active labour, welcoming her son Noah shortly afterwards.
Misinterpreted body signs and weight loss
The mother had experienced subtle physical changes, including missed periods and pelvic heaviness, but previously attributed them to a dramatic ten-stone weight loss. As reported by the lifestyle site VT, Evans had been actively exercising and attending water aerobics classes without realising she was carrying a child until a home pregnancy test revealed a faint positive line. When severe abdominal cramps began shortly after, she rushed to the hospital expecting medical complications, only for doctors to detect a strong heartbeat and confirm full-term labour.
Understanding the cryptic pregnancy phenomenon
Medical experts explaining the rare phenomenon noted that cryptic pregnancies often remain undetected due to irregular menstrual cycles or a baby positioning itself without creating a noticeable bump. Evans' partner, who was away for work at the time, rushed to the hospital and arrived 30 minutes after his son was born. Despite the sudden turn of events, the family and their ten-year-old eldest son have happily embraced their new arrival alongside supportive friends.
