The Office of the Hardap Governor has announced the return of the 2026 Hardap Governor’s Sports Cup, scheduled for 23 to 25 October at the Rehoboth Stadium.
According to organiser Rhuuksie //Garoeb, the tournament will be held under the theme “Unity Through Sport” and will feature football, netball and volleyball, bringing together teams from all constituencies in the Hardap Region.
“Hardap Region, like many other regions in Namibia, faces challenges of youth unemployment, substance abuse and a lack of recreational facilities, so the Governor’s Cup has become a vital intervention, keeping youth engaged in positive activities,” said //Garoeb.
He said the tournament would also provide economic opportunities for small businesses in Rehoboth, which are expected to benefit from the influx of visitors.
The organiser said this year’s tournament has a total prize purse of N$50 000 across the three sporting codes, making it one of the most lucrative regional tournaments in Namibia.
Football accounts for N$50 000 of the prize money. The winners will walk away with N$25 000, while the runners-up will receive N$12 500. The two losing semi-finalists will each receive N$6 250. The entry fee for football teams is N$1 900.
In netball, the total prize money is N$15 000. The champions will receive N$7 000 and 12 medals, while the runners-up will take home N$5 000 and 12 medals. The teams finishing third and fourth will each receive N$1 500. The entry fee is N$550.
Volleyball has a total prize purse of N$5 000, with the winners set to receive N$2 500, the runners-up N$1 000, and the two losing semi-finalists N$750 each. The entry fee is N$450.
//Garoeb confirmed that registration is open for teams across all three sporting codes and urged interested teams to register as soon as possible to avoid last-minute disappointment.
Teams can enquire about registration by via email to –kulaumonendapandula@gmail.com.
