Aizawl, Oct 14: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday urged private investors to tap the state’s growing tourism sector, highlighting a surge in tourist arrivals, infrastructure projects worth ₹681.16 crore and a strategy centred on Culture, Adventure and Nature (CAN).
Addressing the second day of the Mizoram Tourism Conclave 2026 at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall, Lalduhoma said the extension of railway services to Sairang had improved connectivity and contributed to the state’s tourism growth. More than six lakh tourists had visited Mizoram as of September 2026, he said, with arrivals expected to increase during the winter season.
The Chief Minister identified accommodation and hospitality as key areas for private investment, citing the pressure on existing facilities due to rising tourist numbers.
He said the state government, in collaboration with the Union government, was implementing tourism infrastructure projects worth ₹681.16 crore across several locations. He also highlighted an additional allocation of ₹11.10 crore for tourism-related initiatives under the state’s Bana Kaih scheme.
Emphasising community participation, Lalduhoma said the government had initiated the construction of 199 homestays across Mizoram. Supported by the Bana Kaih scheme, corporate social responsibility initiatives and the PM-JUGA scheme, the facilities aim to generate income for local families while offering visitors opportunities to experience Mizo culture.
Under the CAN strategy, the government is promoting Mizo traditions, village cleanliness and community values as cultural tourism assets. Adventure tourism is being encouraged through paragliding competitions, half-marathons and cross-country cycling events, while the state’s landscapes, wildlife sanctuaries, rivers and valleys offer opportunities for nature-based tourism.
Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also addressed the conclave, highlighting the state’s progress and investment potential.
The morning session included presentations on investment opportunities and experiences shared by local tourism entrepreneurs. The conclave later moved to Aijal Club for a business-to-business session, where investors from different states met local operators to explore partnerships and investment opportunities.
