(ANSA) - ROME, 12 OTT - Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti told a parliamentary hearing on the government's economic blueprint Monday that the government would like the possibility of using new EU-sanctioned flexibility to address the needs of families who have suffered from economic shocks and if Europe said No it would be a mistake.
"We would like the possibility of using the NEC [New Expenditure Capacity] to address the needs of families who have suffered this kind of shock. If Europe says no—meaning 'no problem, let the families bear the burden'—well, in my view, that is the wrong choice," Giorgetti said while testifying on the Economic and Financial Planning Document (DPFP).
"We would aim—not because the government insists on it, but because you are all asking for it—to do something for families.
I don't know the outcome; negotiations with EU Commission officials are currently underway." (ANSA).
