The Korea AI and Robot Industry Association said on the 15th that it had appointed Hyundai Motor (005380.KS) and Qualcomm Korea as new board member companies at a recent board meeting.
Hyundai Motor will serve as a vice chairman company of the association, while Qualcomm Korea will take a director company position. The board also approved the admission of STATS ChipPAC Korea, a semiconductor packaging firm, as a full member of the association.
The association said the new appointments and membership were aimed at breaking down barriers among the automotive, semiconductor, artificial intelligence and robotics sectors and at broadening the base of Korea's AI and robot industry. It plans to link the new members' industry expertise and networks to its core programs, pursuing policy and regulatory recommendations to foster the industry, more field demonstrations in new AI and robot businesses, support for overseas market entry, and the development of cross-industry collaboration models.
"Global innovators representing their respective industries, including Hyundai Motor, Qualcomm Korea and STATS ChipPAC Korea, have joined forces with the association," said Bae Seok-tae, the association's standing vice chairman. "We will concentrate the association's capabilities on building an ecosystem that allows South Korea to lead the global AI and robot market."
