Security operatives on Tuesday fired teargas to disperse activists gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests against police brutality.
The incident disrupted a memorial procession organised by the Enough is Enough (EiE) movement in honour of those who lost their lives during the 2020 protests.
Participants were forced to flee as teargas filled the area, bringing the planned commemoration to an abrupt disruption.
Among those present at the gathering were the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidates in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Funso Doherty.

The #EndSARS protests began in 2020, drawing thousands of young Nigerians to the streets to demand an end to police brutality, particularly abuses attributed to the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The Lekki Toll Gate became a major focal point of the demonstrations, which spread across several parts of the country and sparked widespread calls for police reform and accountability.
Tuesday’s gathering was organised to remember those who died during the protests and renew calls for justice.
Tension later subsided, with the area reported to have cleared after the disruption.
Despite the incident, activists at the commemoration vowed to continue their struggle for justice for victims of the #EndSARS protests.
