Doechii has dropped “Bombs,” a short loosie that also marks the return of her “Swamp Sessions” series. In the lead-up to 2024’s Alligator Bites Never Heal, the rapper shared weekly song snippets and freestyles to YouTube, with several, including “Nissan Altima” and “Catfish,” ending up on the mixtape proper. Watch the accompanying video for “Bombs,” directed by Doechii herself, below.
After a quiet 2026, Doechii has also penned a handwritten letter to fans. “I spent the past few years relearning Hip-Hop as a student. Studying its language, its history, its roots,” Doechii writes in the note—posted to her Instagram story and viewed by Pitchfork. “Now, I feel inspired to contribute to evolve it. To stretch it through different genres, different sounds and different parts of myself.”
Doechii goes on, “A mission is brewing inside of me (a responsibility really) to see Black Womanhood exist at the center of Hip-Hop AND Pop. I fear my devotion now is to becoming the artist I wish existed when I was growing up. Finally become the dark skin ICON my little girl eyes wanted to see. Making the music I want to hear and embodying the posture of thee STAR! A light in my industry. I want art in every fucking thing.” She ends the letter with a resolute “I don’t have shit else to say hoe.” Read the full text below.
Since 2019, Doechii has put out several EPs and the Grammy-winning Alligator Bites, but she has yet to release an official debut album. Earlier this year she teamed up with Lady Gaga for “Runway,” an original song from The Devil Wears Prada 2. Doechii also performed (in head-to-toe pink body paint) at the inaugural edition of Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in August.

A Cup of Butterscotch Tea
10:05pm, October (something)
❤️ Reporting live from my mongolian fur sofa in Topanga, fuzzy pink robes, cheap bunny slippers, and Acne Studio sweats, I have decided.
Two crazy ass years have gone by (fast af) and my travels have left me, at 28, with a little more wisdom, more guts and ALOT more shoes!
I spent the past few years relearning Hip-Hop as a student. Studying its language, its history, its roots. Now, I feel inspired to contribute to evolve it. To stretch it through different genres, different sounds and different parts of myself.
This chapter of my life is about FREEDOM. Freedom, adventure and unpredictability are serving meeee (and well). Omg and INTEGRATION (ima get back to this after I finish my tea).
A mission is brewing inside of me (a responsibility really) to see Black Womanhood exist at the center of Hip-Hop AND Pop.
I fear my devotion now is to becoming the artist I wish existed when I was growing up. Finally become the dark skin ICON my little girl eyes wanted to see. Making the music I want to hear and embodying the posture of thee STAR! A light in my industry.
I want art in every fucking thing.
I want everything.
I am EVERYTHING.
Vain, vulnerable, sovereign, undone, unpolished, childlike, artsy, animated, theatrical. I want the pleasurable parts. The fucked up parts. The grit. The guts. The GLAMOUR.
I want people to choke on me.
I want them to be overwhelmed by me.
THAT’s me.
And this—THIS is the type of self devotion I want my fans (fuck that, the world) to have. Permission to evolve and be all of you, all at once.
I don’t have shit else to say hoe, I've decided.
