KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The Nepal Red Cross Society has stepped up its response to the sudden flooding in the Budhigandaki River.
On Sunday morning, a debris flow from Ungilung Khola near Chumling in Chumnubri Rural Municipality Ward 6, Gorkha, blocked Syar Khola. The blockage later burst, triggering a sudden flood in the Budhigandaki.
According to a preliminary assessment by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, five people remain unaccounted for. The flood destroyed 45 homes and partially damaged 27 others. It also damaged two concrete bridges, two suspension bridges, three hydropower projects, four ceremonial fire pits, 34 livestock sheds and three vehicles.
