Retired police officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) have issued a fresh ultimatum to the Federal Government, the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), demanding the fulfilment of agreements on gratuity payments and pension enhancement by October 15, 2026.
The retirees warned that failure to meet the deadline would compel them to stage a peaceful mass protest in Abuja on November 2, 2026, to demand their total exit from what they described as an obnoxious pension scheme.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Coordinator and Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter, Mannir Lawal, and distributed to journalists in Kaduna.
The association expressed disappointment over the failure of the authorities to implement commitments reportedly made during negotiations with representatives of the retired officers, despite assurances that the agreed measures would be implemented by the end of September 2026.
It said the Director-General of PENCOM had assured the retirees of the payment of gratuity equivalent to 300 per cent of annual emoluments and an increase in monthly pensions to 100 per cent of the applicable salary benchmark.
The retired police officers said the failure to implement these measures had undermined confidence in the negotiation process and worsened concerns about the welfare of affected retirees.
The group said they had devoted their productive years to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding national security, and insisted that their patience and commitment to dialogue should not be mistaken for weakness.

They called on the Federal Government, PENCOM and the IGP to take concrete and verifiable steps to honour the agreements and provide a clear implementation plan.
The association maintained that the proposed protest would be peaceful, lawful and orderly, describing it as a last resort after exhausting available avenues of dialogue.
It also urged affected retirees across the country to remain united and prepared to participate in the demonstration if the authorities failed to meet the October 15 deadline.
