Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt after unidentified assailants allegedly fired several rounds at his car in Mumbai's Juhu area this evening (18 October), police said.
The incident took place near Pushpa Park under the jurisdiction of Juhu police station in the western suburb.
"Shroff is safe and has not sustained any injuries in the firing incident," a senior police official said.
According to preliminary information, three to four rounds were fired at Shroff's car as he was leaving a ground. A large crowd had gathered to see the actor when the assailants allegedly opened fire from within the crowd, Mumbai Police said.
Shroff was not hit by any of the bullets.
Police have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest those involved. Specialised teams are examining CCTV footage from the area for leads, the official said.
Meanwhile, a social media post purporting to be from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the attack. The post named gang member Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu as being behind the firing. The authenticity of the claim could not immediately be independently verified.
"We had called him and tried to explain things to him, but he did not understand. So today, we made sure to explain it to him properly," the post said in Hindi.
Pandit also allegedly threatened other people in the Mumbai film industry, saying those who did not listen to the gang or worked with actor Salman Khan would be targeted next.
Shroff's driver and an autorickshaw driver were also reportedly injured in the incident.
The attack comes amid a series of shooting incidents targeting Bollywood figures in Mumbai.
In February this year, five rounds were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Juhu. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang later claimed responsibility for the firing.
In April 2024, two motorcycle-borne men fired five rounds outside actor Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra area.
Mumbai Police subsequently arrested several suspects allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The trial against five accused is currently underway.
Shroff, 36, is the son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff. He made his Bollywood debut with Heropanti in 2014 and is known for his action stunts and dancing skills.
