The Milwaukee Brewers' bullpen made MLB history on Monday, Oct. 12, when they threw five perfect innings, something that has never been done before in postseason history.
According to ESPN Insights, the combination of Dustin May, JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe, and Aaron Ashby made history.
Logan Henderson was pulled after four innings of work. He came back out for the fifth, but things did not go according to plan as he allowed four total runs, though only two were earned.
May allowed one of those to score on a sacrifice fly, but Henderson was responsible for the runner, so it didn't count against him.
Together, those four relievers didn't allow a single hit or walk as they combined for seven strikeouts across their five innings of work.
The Los Angeles Dodgers weren't able to hit a ball out of the infield from the fifth through eighth inning, and once they finally did in the ninth off Ashby, it was far too little too late.
Brewers bullpen didn't back down
No matter how much this Dodgers lineup is being paid, they stood no chance against what manager Pat Murphy and pitching coach Chris Hook had lined up for them.
Closer Trevor Megill was getting loose, but he was able to sit back down as the Brewers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Obviously, if Ashby had struggled in the ninth, there's no doubt he would've come into the game to slam the door.
Thankfully, Megill was able to get an extra day of rest, and that doesn't even count these teams having an off day on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Heading into Game 3 at Dodger Stadium, this will once again be a fully rested and healthy Brewers bullpen with everyone available.
Keep in mind, they still haven't even needed to use Chad Patrick, Kyle Harrison, or Shane Drohan. Those three remain on the roster, but Murphy has his favorites, and those are arms that haven't let him down thus far.
Throughout the postseason, the Brewers bullpen has allowed just one earned run in 28.2 innings of work.
Together, all of these relievers have combined for 26 strikeouts, and it's crazy to think that seven of those came against the Dodgers in Game 2.
Ashby's 21 pitches were the most of any Brewers reliever in this one, and that isn't surprising as he recorded a five-out save.
Elsewhere, May threw 14 pitches, and then Romero and Uribe threw 13 each.
