Brentford have confirmed that they have reported an unusual incident that occurred during Saturday's Premier League match against Liverpool to the authorities. The Bees fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Víctor Muñoz and Alexander Isak proving decisive in the second half after Keane Lewis-Potter's opener in the 44th minute.
However, it wasn't solely the result that had people talking in West London. Video footage circulating across social media appears to capture a male launching a rugby ball from a balcony overlooking the stadium during the game, which subsequently landed on the pitch below.
A separate clip shows an individual carrying a rugby ball away from the playing surface, accompanied by a caption reading: "Wrong sport mate," delivered with a hint of sarcasm. Brentford have now confirmed that the incident has been referred to the police, given its "dangerous and potentially harmful" nature, as per The Mirror.

A club statement issued on Monday read: "Brentford Football Club is aware of an incident involving an item being kicked from a height towards the field of play during Saturday's match against Liverpool. Such behaviour is dangerous and potentially very harmful.
"The matter has been referred to the police and the club is supporting the relevant authorities in their investigation to help identify those responsible and take appropriate action, which may result in criminal prosecution. The matchday safety of fans, staff, players and officials is of utmost importance, and the club will support all efforts to ensure action is taken."
Meanwhile, Brentford have enjoyed a largely encouraging start to the campaign, currently sitting sixth in the Premier League table with two victories, four draws and just one defeat from their opening fixtures. The Bees' next assignment is an away fixture at Hull City on Sunday, October 25.
Liverpool, meanwhile, occupy fifth place - just one spot above Keith Andrews' side - having registered three wins and three draws from their opening seven matches of the 2026/27 season.

However, the demands of UEFA Champions League soccer present a significant challenge for Andoni Iraola's squad as they look to mount a sustained domestic title challenge this term.
The Reds face Villarreal on Tuesday, October 20, before welcoming an in-form Brighton and Hove Albion to Anfield on Sunday - the Seagulls currently occupying third place on the back of an impressive start to the new campaign.
What's more, Liverpool are dealing with several significant injury absences, leaving Iraola's available squad concerningly depleted in key positions.
Beyond Hugo Ekitike, who remains out following an Achilles tendon rupture suffered late last season, both Conor Bradley and Gio Leoni continue their rehabilitation from separate knee problems.
