Comedian Joe Lycett has been banished from The Celebrity Traitors after his plea to be recruited backfired and he fell under suspicion.
The TV star had been vocal about his hopes to join the treacherous famous faces in the BBC series but remained faithful until the end.
The episode started with the revelation no player had been murdered after traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster recruited content creator King Kenny.
Kenny filled the vacancy left by Hannah Fry, after she was banished during the roundtable in Thursday’s episode and exposed as a traitor.
Lycett had been vocal that he wanted to be her replacement, which prompted suspicion at the roundtable in Friday’s instalment.
Asked if he had indeed been recruited, he replied: “I did not and I am sad about it, because that is something I wanted in this game.
“I’ve probably been too vocal about it.”
Pleading his case as he fell under suspicion, Lycett said it would be “too obvious” for the traitors to recruit him.
However he sealed his fate when he told the group: “If you banish me tonight, they will have to recruit again,” prompting members of the roundtable to assume he had let slip he was indeed a traitor.
As he revealed his true identity after he was voted off, Lycett said: “I always wanted to start as a faithful and end as a traitor. I started as a faithful, I did not get my wish, I am a faithful.”
Earlier in the episode, the celebrities completed a mission to answer questions about their fellow players to match statue heads with their bodies and mount them on plinths.
During the game it was revealed the group voted actor Michael Sheen as head of the roundtable, while Romesh Ranganathan has the best poker face and Jerry Hall has her head in the clouds.
There was also levity when Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock taught comedian actress Miranda Hart the dance moves to the band’s hit Touch and Hart dubbed herself “Big Mix.”
The episode ended with the traitors attempting to murder either Hall or Ross Kemp in plain sight by spraying a perfume from a peacock bottle and then encouraging a faithful to yawn to inhale the perfume.
Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC One at 8pm next Thursday.
