The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern over the economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians, particularly young people and struggling families.
Atiku criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the rising cost of living, arguing that many citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their basic needs despite working.
The former vice president made his position known in a post shared on social media on Wednesday, where he highlighted the difficulties facing households amid rising living costs and persistent security challenges.
Atiku said many parents were struggling to provide food for their children, while pensioners were being forced to make difficult choices between purchasing food and paying for medication.
He also expressed concern over kidnappings and attacks in different parts of the country, noting that families were increasingly worried about the safety of their loved ones.
“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” he wrote.
The ADC chieftain warned that economic hardship and insecurity should not become conditions that Nigerians are forced to accept as normal.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” he said.
Amid his criticism of the administration, Atiku urged eligible Nigerians to collect and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.

He described the cards as important tools through which citizens could exercise their voting rights and influence the country’s political direction.
Atiku also pledged to pursue policies aimed at reducing the cost of living and improving national security, contrasting his proposed approach with the current administration’s record.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he stated.
