GEORGE TOWN: A government agency chairman with the title Datuk is expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Sessions Court tomorrow.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained approval to charge the chairman under Op Jurus, with proceedings set for 9am.
Lawyer Dr Shamsher Singh Thind, who represents the chairman, confirmed that his client would be charged.
"Yes, he will be charged alone. That was what I was told," he said when contacted.
However, the nature of the charge is not yet known.
On Aug 26, the 53-year-old chairman was released on RM10,000 bail after completing a week-long remand extension granted by the magistrates' court.
His brother, sister-in-law and two company directors were also remanded in connection with the case.
The investigation centres on allegations that the chairman abused his position as deputy chairman and board member to approve the sale of eight plots of land in Seberang Perai Selatan to a company allegedly owned by an associate in 2015.
The sale was below market value, resulting in estimated losses of RM1.96 million.
