N1 reporter Mladen Savatovic shared the Dusan Bogavac Award for journalistic ethics and courage with the Masina independent portal’s editorial team at a presentation on Wednesday.
The award is presented annually by the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS) and the Dusan Bogavac Foundation.
Savatovic dedicated his award to his newsroom, which he said was going through the most difficult period since N1 was founded. He received the award for the second consecutive year for his reporting from protests and public gatherings across Serbia despite threats and physical attacks.
"For 12 years, N1 has fought against pressure, against targeting, against all the negative phenomena directed against us to prevent us from doing our job," Savatovic said. He added that the newsroom had resisted and would continue its work, dedicating the recognition to colleagues across the organization, including camera operators, editors, reporters and the web team.
